About Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

If you are a man having trouble urinating, it may be due to Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). Men over 50 years old are those commonly affected. While BPH is not usually life-threatening, ignoring its early symptoms could lead to serious problems such as irreversible damage to the kidneys and bladder as well as bladder stone formation and bladder infections.

Did You Know?

The most common symptoms associated with BPH include:

  • difficulty in initiating urination
  • the need to frequently urinate, particularly at night
  • sensation that the bladder is not emptied yet even after urination
  • having a poor urinary stream

These common symptoms are often the result of prostate enlargement. If you have any of these symptoms, contact your urologist.
